One RSVP message I’ll never forget

One RSVP Message I'll Never Forget

During one of the change management initiatives I was part of, I came across this message.

“How would you feel if you threw a party where everyone RSVPed and nobody showed up?” Not great, right? We’ve seen “no shows” in our live sessions and our ask:

Don’t ghost your host, if you register for a live course, make sure you attend! “No-Shows” will be reported to the Practice MDs.

Honestly, this is one of the most memorable communication messages I’ve seen.

It wasn’t a long email.

It wasn’t full of policies or reminders.

It simply made people look at the situation from a different perspective.

The moment I read it, I stopped thinking like an employee attending training and started thinking like the person organizing it.

Imagine spending days preparing a session.

Creating content.

Booking the meeting.

Sending invitations.

Keeping seats reserved.

And then… people who registered simply don’t turn up.

That one sentence made the message human.

The line “Don’t ghost your host” made it even more relatable.

Yes, the organization also mentioned that repeated no-shows would be reported, but honestly, the RSVP analogy was powerful enough on its own.

As someone who enjoys learning and conducting knowledge-sharing sessions, this changed how I think about registrations.

Now, whenever I register for a webinar, workshop, or training session, I ask myself one question:

Am I really going to attend?

If the answer is yes, I register.

If not, I don’t block a seat that someone else could use.

Sometimes, effective change management isn’t about writing longer communications.

It’s about finding one simple message that people remember.

And for me, this was one of them.

Creative RSVP !!
  1. Imagine cooking dinner for 20 guests who all said “I’ll be there”… and only 5 walked in. That’s what a training session feels like when registrations don’t turn into attendance. If you RSVP, please show up.
  2. Ever booked a table at a restaurant and forgotten to cancel? Someone else could have enjoyed that table. The same goes for learning sessions. Register only if you plan to attend.

  3. Every registration tells us, “I’m in.” Every attendance proves it. Register with intent. Attend with commitment.

  4. The easiest way to support a trainer isn’t applause at the end. It’s showing up at the beginning.
