Learn, Relearn and Unlearn

This is one of the hard-core lessons which I learned in my late career and glad I did it. Sharing the concept of Learn, Relearn & Unlearn. This is one of the important skills to conquer in the PMO world because we live in a world where a combination of skills is valued most.

The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn.

Alvin Tofler

It takes curiosity to learn.

It takes courage to unlearn.

Learning requires the humility to admit what you don’t know today.

Unlearning requires the integrity to admit that you were wrong yesterday.

Learning is how you evolve.

Unlearning is how you keep up as the world evolves.

Adam Grant

What do you mean by Learning?

Learning in simple words is to get knowledge about something. We need to constantly learn and upskill ourselves in our life. Mistakes are the best lessons in life. for better or worse, Covid has changed our way of working. The Covid has made a tremendous impact on our way of learning mindset. No more the traditional way of classroom teaching but to constantly upgrade ourselves through online learning. Additionally, there’s nothing like practice when developing a new skill.

Equipping the time management skills during this pandemic and pacing yourself at both work and life is also learning.

Listed a few of the key points to remember while we talk about Learning.

What do you mean by Relearning?

Relearning is not just be defined that you learn something which you have forgotten or recalling something you learned in the past. It also means constantly adapting to the changes in the methodologies, tools, or technologies. The only thing that is constant in life is CHANGE. This pandemic is a testament to our ability to adapt to change.

Your ability and in turn the confidence will rise if you relearn in your PMO career. When you relearn, you get better at something.

Let’s see a few of the major snip bits about the relearning process.

What do you mean by Unlearning?

As the world progress, we need to have a growth mindset. We need to ensure to adapt to the learning and in the process, we may need to unlearn certain processes, strategy or standards and go beyond the fixed mindset of working. This will induce creativity in learning and in the way of doing things.

It is about saying I’m going to think through this carefully one more time” rather than “This is too hard”.

It is about saying “I’ll try a different strategy” rather than “I’ll give up”.

Few key snippets of the Unlearning are below:

This concept is applicable in all careers irrespective of the domain and hope you find it relevant as well. Share your thoughts.
